Motorcycle Tires
Motorcycle tire longevity
Tires are essential to any vehicle, without them our automobiles would be useless. When buying motorcycle tires you’ll find that there many tire models available to choose from. You can choose what ever brand or tread tire you want, but the size of the tire must match the specifications and requirements of your bike. If you do not know what size tire your motorcycle requires, get assistance from the tire dealer. The dealer should be able to tell you exactly what tires are right for the bike and you’re riding style.
When purchasing motorcycle tires for your vehicle you must consider what you require most out of them. Whether you’re looking for better mileage or traction, or if your using them for off road or racing. Keep in mind the sifter rubber, the better the traction, but the tires wear more quickly. Firm rubber compound tires on the other hand offer better mileage, but fail to give a good level of traction.
If your motorcycle has been sitting in storage for a long period of time the tires may need to be changed; even if the tires were new when the bike was originally stored. Tires are subject to rot, and if not rotated often belts within the tire could snap. Over time all tires slowly loose air eventually becoming flat. The weight of a vehicle on a flat tire could damage it if not attended too quickly.
You may be considering purchasing a pair of motorcycle tires from an online store to save some money. However, when purchasing motorcycle tires online you could be paying much more!
Often when purchasing tires online the provider will not offer an extended warranty. The manufacture warranty should still apply when purchasing online, but it’s important to know how many miles the tire is warranted for before the warranty turns void.
To ensure maximum life of your motorcycle tires it is important to keep the air pressure at the manufactures recommended levels. If you are not sure what the exact air pressure rate should be, contact the dealer or the manufacturer of the motorcycle tires.
Changing your motorcycle tires at the first signs of wear will maximize your motorcycles performance. Replacing motorcycle tires can be done at home safely with the proper tools. You’ll need to set aside at least 30 minutes for each tire, and another 10 minutes for cleanup. On the other hand a dealer can usually have you in-and-out of the shop in about 20 minutes.
If you decide to do the job yourself you’ll need these basic tools, Air Pump, A Wedge, Bike Stand (or a BikeTow also works really well), Bead Breaker, Bead Lube, 2 Tire irons, Rim Guards, Valve Tool. It is also a good idea have someone with experience to help you the first time you change your motorcycle tires. Things can get tricky if you don’t know what your doing and mistakes could cost you in the long run.
